Hans Strand
Il mio secondo ospite è: Hans Strand. Egli è uno dei migliori fotografi naturalisti del mondo. Io penso che l’amico Hans sia il miglior fotografo paesaggista del mondo. Hans Strand è nato in Svezia nel 1955. Dopo una carriera come ingegnere meccanico decide nel 1990 di cambiare radicalmente mestiere e diventa un fotografo paesaggista a tempo pieno. Una decisione di cui non si è mai pentito. Hans si è sempre sentito attratto dalla naturalezza e da ciò che Lui trova di indomato nella natura, egli ama dire: “La natura selvaggia è la madre di tutte le cose. Essa è sempre onesta e mai insignificante.” Il suo lavoro si svolge in tutto il mondo: dai paesaggi scandinavi e artici, alle umide foreste tropicali, ai torridi deserti. Le sue fotografie sono state pubblicate su numerose riviste internazionali, e ha tenuto conferenze sulla fotografia sia in Svezia che all’estero. Nel 1999 la Canon ha scelto le sue foto per il suo calendario. Hans ha vinto per ben due volte il concorso di fotografia naturalistica più importante del mondo, il “BBC Wildlife Photographer of The Year”, nel 2000 nella categoria “In praise of plants” e nel 2001 nella categoria “Composition and Form”. Nello stesso anno è stato vincitore della categoria paesaggi al concorso “The European Nature Photographer of the Year” . Ha pubblicato tre libri fotografici e recentemente è stato anche nominato fotografo naturalista dell’anno in Scandinavia. Egli fa parte di quella categoria di fotografi per cui la tecnica è importante per poter esprimere le proprie impressioni artistiche. Per gran parte del suo lavoro usa il grande formato (4x5”), ma in determinate situazioni anche medio e piccolo formato.

My second guest is: Hans Strand. He is one of the top nature photographers in the world. I think that my friend Hans is the best photographers of landscapes in the world. Hans Strand was born in Sweden in 1955. After a career as a mechanical engineer he decided, in 1990, to change radically work and become a full time landscape-photographer. He has never repented having done it! Hans has always been attracted by the untamed and the unmanipulated that he finds in nature in fact he likes saying: “ Wild nature is the mother of everything. It is always honest and never meaningless.” He works and travels all around the world: from the Scandinavian landscapes to the Arctic ones, from the Tropical wet forests to the torrid deserts. His pictures appeared on different international magazines and he has also lectured on photography both in Sweden and abroad. In 1999 Canon chose his pictures for its calendar. Hans has twice won the most important competition on naturalistic photography “BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year” in 2000 in the category “ In praise of plants “ and in 2001 in the category “ Composition and form”. In the same year he won another competition “ The European Nature Photographer of the Year” in the category “ Landscapes “. He has also published three photographic books. He is one of those photographers who consider the technique a mean to express their own artistic impressions. He uses the big size (4x5”) in most part of his work even if in certain situations he relies on the medium & small size.
