Jan Vermeer
Ho conosciuto Jan nel 2004 durante l'International Po Delta a Comacchio.
Una breve chiacchierata mi aveva fatto scoprire la sua simpatia, e soprattutto il fatto che ci accomunava l'interesse per
alcuni dei luoghi pių affascinanti e freddi della Terra. A distanza di un paio di anni, ci siamo ritrovati in Antartide a bordo
dello stesso rompighiaccio e insieme, nel febbraio 2007, abbiamo effettuato un viaggio in Giappone all'isola di Hokkaido.
Jan ama particolarmente fotografare fiori, ma la sua grande passione per la fotografia e la natura incontaminata,
fanno di lui un fotografo polivalente. Egli ottiene ottimi risultati sia fotografando gli ampi spazi selvaggi delle brughiere e
delle lande sabbiose della sua Olanda, che frequentando le fredde e poco esplorate terre artiche ed antartiche.
Nelle sue fotografie Vermeer unisce la ricerca dell'armonia fra la composizione estetica delle forme e la luce e il colore.
Le sue immagini sono state pių volte segnalate in importanti concorsi internazionali quali GDT European Photographer
of the Year e BBC WildlifePhotographer of the Year. I suoi pių importanti piazzamenti in questi concorsi sono stati:
il primo posto nella categoria"mammal" al GDT nel 2001 e 2003; il primo posto nella categoria "animal behaviours bird"
al BBC 2004; il primo posto nella categoria "animal in their environment" al BBC 2006 e il secondo posto nella categoria
"creative vision of nature"sempre nel BBC 2006.
Da poco tempo č uscito il suo nuovo libro, in lingua olandese, dal titolo WITTE WERELD (Mondo di ghiaccio).
Questo libro, molto bello,ricco di immagini spettacolari, č il risultato di due anni e mezzo di viaggi in alcune delle terre pių fredde del pianeta, per fotografare
paesaggi mozzafiato, pinguini, orsi polari, foche della Groenlandia e molti altri animali che vivono in queste terre inospitali.
Grazie all'amico Jan per aver accettato di essere mio ospite e in bocca al lupo per tanto successo nei suoi lavori futuri.

I met Jan in 2004 at the International Po Delta in Comacchio (Italy).
I immediately liked him, he was such a nice person to talk to and I soon discovered that we shared the same interests and passion for the most fascinating and coldest places on Earth. After a couple of years we met in Antarctica on board of the same icebreaker and together in February 2007 we went to Hokkaido - Japan.
Jan loves taking pictures of flowers but his great passion for the photography and the uncontaminated nature make him a versatile photographer. He gets excellent results both taking pictures of wide wild spaces such as the Dutch moor and sandy wastes and exploring the cold and isolated artic and Antarctic lands.
In his pictures Vermeer combines the research for the harmony among the aesthetic composition of shapes, lights and colours. His pictures have been more than once pointed out at important international competitions like for example GDT European Photographer of the year and BBC Wildlife photographer of the year. His most important placing at these competitions have been:
the first place for the category "mammal" at the GDT in 2001 and 2003, the first place for the category "animal behaviours bird" at the BBC 2004, the first place for the category "animal in their environment" at BBC in 2006 and the second place for the category "creative vision of nature" at BBC in 2006.
Recently his latest book has been published in Dutch. Its title is WITTE WERELD (Ice world). It's a beautiful book, full of spectacular images. He has spent 2 years and a half travelling to the coldest corners of the Earth, taking pictures of breathtaking landscapes, penguins, polar bears, Greenlandic seals and many other animals that live in these areas.
